     Archibald Fairbairn was born say 1730 ?Smailholm or ?Kelso, ROX, SCT, the only one in Kelso is 1690, s/o Alexander F and Bessie CIDBERTSON, but naming pattern indicates likely parents George & Isabell.1
     Archibald Fairbairn married Marion Dickson on 18 Feb 1756 Smailholm, ROX, SCT, igi has 10 Jan 1756 Nenthorn, 18 Feb 1757 Smailholm
The Nenthorn entry reads Jany ye 10th 1756 Archbald (sic) Fairbairn in this parish and Marion Dickson in the parish of Smalhome (sic) (having produced sufficient testimonials) gave up their names for proclamation in order to marriage & gave pawns
The Smailholm entry is actually 1756 and reads:
February 18th Archibald Fairbairn & Marion Dickson after legal proclamation were married.1,2,3



     Archibald Fairbairn died aft. 1773 ?Kelso, ROX, SCT.4
     The Archibald Fairbairn whose marriage to Marion Dickson is recorded in both Nenthorn and Smailholm parish registers is assumed to be the one having children with Marion sometimes shown as Mary, baptizing children in Kelso from 1758 through to at least 1773.
He may, or may not, also be the Archibald Fairbairn witness to the baptism of Mary, daughter of Robert Fairbairn in Kelso in 1771.
My initial working assumption was that this Archibald might be the father of Archibald marr. Crosser - but where would he "fit"?
There's no room in the existing children.
Which highlights a flaw in my reasoning.
Either Isabel is a sibling of Archibald m. Crosser and William ?married? Elliot,
OR she is the child of the Archibald married Marion Dickson.
(or the father of Archibald, William and Isabel is someone else in the extended Fairbairn family entirely.)5

All the other info

     Archibald? Fairbairn the placeholder Archibald linking the BigY tested descendants of Archibald married to Crosser and of William ?married to Aylsie Elliott? to their assumed connection to John m. Bessie Flint was initially considered, and subsequently rejected, as a potential duplicate of Archibald Fairbairn married to Marion Dickson, as neither of assumed sons: Archibald (married Crosser) and William marr. Aylsie, seem likely to be able to be squeezed into the documented family of Archibald and Marion.5
     It is possible that Archibald Fairbairn witnessed the baptism of Mary Fairbairn on 17 Feb 1771 Kelso, ROX, SCT; Wit: John Smith & Archibald FAIRBAIRN.4
