Emma Parker GIBSON prev. AUSTIN nee CLINTON (c 1828-1894)

Emma Parker Clinton was born cir. 1828 in London, ENG, this date/place being consistent between marriage, death certs (and mother's death cert), also the 'Roxburgh Castle' passenger list. Which is more than I can say for her names. It is unlikely, but possible, to be 1827 instead, but elder brother William was born 25 Feb 1827.2,3,1 She was christened on 13 Jun 1830 in the Par. of St Stephen, LND?, ENG; same date as siblings Frederick and Henry.4
Emma Clinton married William Austin on 6 Feb 1853 at St Martin in the Field, London, MDX, ENG, the cert (Folio#155) shows, for the Registration district of Westminster, 1853, Parish of St Martin in the Field, County of Middlesex. Groom: William Austin, full age, bachelor, Porter, resident of Snow Hill, Father's name and profession blank. Bride: Emma Clinton, full age, spinster, no profession, residence at time of marriage Snow Hill. Father William Clinton, 'Carrier' (assumed mistranscribed from currier). Married in the Parish church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns by Minister: S Flood Jones, Curate. Witnessed by H Clinton (assumed to be Emma's brother Henry), S Crossman (either a friend, or possibly Emma's elder sister Sarah?). (There is no mention of this marriage on Emma's death cert.).5,1
Emma Parker Clinton married Capt John Gibson, son of Adam Gibson and Janet (Jessie?) Purdie (Purdy?), on 31 Dec 1855 at the Emerald Hill Manse, Melbourne, VIC, AUS, cert. #3632 shows: John Gibson, 30, single, born Lanark, Scotland, Master Mariner, present and usual address: Brigantine 'Express', Melbourne, s/o Adam Gibson, contractor, Janet Purdie; Bride
Emma Parker Clinton, 28, single, born London, d/o William Clinton, currier, Jemima Parker, present and usu. address Melbourne. No children by former marriage, either living or dead for either party (ie Emma ignores her previous marriage and existing child, Caroline Emma Austin).
I John Gibson, do hereby declare that I am a member of the Presbyterian church, and that I was married in the Manse at Emerald Hill. Signed by both parties. Witnesses: Andrew Boyd, Elisabeth Boyd. Minister: D Macdonald.2,1
Emma Gibson died on 9 Jun 1894 at 50 Egmont Rd, New Plymouth, TNK, NZ; Folio #1307/1894 cert shows Emma died aged 67, of debility and exhaustion, duration 'years', last seen Dr Christie, March 1894. Father: Clinton, currier, (first name blank). Mother: 'not known'. Buried Jun 12 1894, Henui cemetery by Episcopalian minister. Born London, ENG, in NZ for 30 yrs. Married: Victoria at age 28 to John Gibson. Children still living: 1 male 35 years (John), 1 female 40 years (Emma). Inf. ?Brooking? Undertaker, New Plymouth. Registered July 10 1894.1 She was buried on 12 Jun 1894 in the Te Henui Cem., New Plymouth, TNK, NZ, Block 6, no. 19, plot 1 or 2. Buried with husband John, son William Henry and grandson Willie (I have a photo, just need to find it again).1
Emma say she is a spinster (Emma Parker Clinton) on her marriage cert to Capt John Gibson, and John's death cert says he married Emma Austin.
Emma Parker Clinton and Tara are related as Tara is the direct maternal ancestor of Lorna, proven by a mitochondrial DNA test. Lorna's proven maternal ancestral line goes: Lorna (NZ), Alice Henderson nee Andrews (NZ); Honor Andrews nee Rowe (NZ); Emma Rowe nee Austin (Australia to NZ); Emma Gibson/Austin nee Clinton (London to Australia to NZ); Jemima Clinton nee Parker (Essex to London to Australia to NZ) with a further possible generation to Charlotte Parker nee Parkinson (Essex) and an awful lot more women who will obviously remain completely undocumented back from the 1760s to 15000 BC.
I see that Oxford Ancestors has one, and only one, direct match for my mDNA on their database although there are many other Tara descendants, including a lady in Auckland whose forbears lived in Essex and moved to London, just like mine, about the same time. Unfortunately, the direct match one hasn't chosen to share her contact details.6,7 Emma Parker Clinton was not found in the census of 1851 ENG.8
Emma Austin migrated from Plymouth, England 2 May 1853 on the 'Roxburgh Castle' to Port Phillip arriving Melbourne in Jul 1853 also Jemima Clinton, together with William Austin and Henry Clinton.3 Emma Parker Clinton was still living in Melbourne, VIC, AUS, in Dec 1855 when she remarried.2 Bet 1859 - 1864 John and Emma Gibson were living at Dromana, Mornington Peninsula, VIC, AUS, where their 3 children were born (so John obviously wasn't at sea the whole time).9
Emma Parker Gibson and Capt John Gibson migrated bet 20 Jun 1864 - 3 Aug 1864 to New Plymouth, TNK, NZ; from Melbourne, presumably as a family group, Capt John and wife Emma Gibson, eldest (step)dtr (Caroline) Emma aged about 10; and sons John, 4 and William Henry a baby, another son, James, having died in Melbourne in 1863. The actual date varies depending on the source, starting with the certificates nearest in time: son William Henry's dth cert implies c 1864/5; mother Emma's 1894 dth cert c 1864; however dtr Caroline Emma's 1899 dth cert implies 1868/9; brother John's 1932 dth cert also implies c 1868. It is possible, but unlikely, that in 1864 Emma and John stayed behind in Victoria with family then followed their parents out 4 yrs later, aged 14 and 8 respectively. So, I presume they all emigrated together when John took up his appointment as Harbour Master in New Plymouth in 1864. The "Jun to Aug" was drawn from correspondence in the Taranaki Provincial Papers in the National Archives offering him the position, and after his arrival.1,10
Emma Gibson was listed on Smart Rd, TNK, NZ, on the electoral roll of 1893, the first to include women entry #2978 showing Emma as a married woman (Smart Rd being in/nr New Plymouth).11
