BMDB data

Isabel Fairbairn was born cir. 1767 ?Smailholm, ROX, SCT.3
Isabel Fairbairn married James Oliver on 18 Nov 1792 St Maurice & All Angels, Ford, NBL, ENG, James otp, Isabel of Smailholm, N.B. (North Britain.4
Isabel Fairbairn died cir. May 1839 Kyloe, NBL, ENG; aged 71.3
John Fairbairn (m. Bessie fflint) is likely to be the family patriarch for the families of Archibald? Fairbairn, Archibald Fairbairn, William Fairbairn, Isabel Fairbairn and Robert Fairbairn.
Archibald? born about 1735 is a placeholder parent providing the link back to John Fairbairn and Bessie Flint. He has to have existed given y-, and autosomal, DNA matches between his assumed descendants :
- Archibald, married Crosser
- William supposedly married Aylcy/Alice Elliot
and as of Dec 2023
- Isabel, married James Oliver.
and those of the Robert (married Landreth), son of John and Bessie.

We have BigY exact matches between two descendant lines down from both Archibald m. Crosser and William m? Elliott, and a y67 exact match, to a descendant of Robert.

The Fairbairn project would love to hear from a direct male line descendant of Robert to add to this yDNA knowledge, we have at least a y37 entry level test with your name on it for you!
Please see the Fairbairn Surname DNA project for contact details)

Until now (Dec 2023), William, supposedly married to Aylsie Elliot, had been placed as a sibling of Robert and thus son of John & Bessie (Flint) although there was always a niggle about how strong the autosomal matches were between descendants of Archibald m. Crosser and those of William m. Wanless, along with those to descendants of his brother John m. Williamson compared with the few to descendants of Robert. William has now been demoted to Robert’s nephew rather than brother.

Isabell is currently assigned as a sister. This being the result of my reviewing newly in autosomal matches which brought to light matches to an Isabel Fairbairn born in the 1760s “of Smailholm” when she married James Oliver in Ford, Northumberland where they subsequently lived at Fenwick / Kyloe.

Names

As of 1839, Isabel Fairbairn was also known as Isabella Oliver.3

All the other info

Isabell Fairbairn the daughter of Archibald Fairbairn and Marion Dickson was initially considered, and subsequently rejected, as a potential duplicate of Isabel Fairbairn the wife James Oilver described as "of Smailholm" when they married in Ford, Northuberland.
Either Isabel IS the sister of Archibald and William OR the daughter of the separate Archibald married to Marion Dickson. Autosomal DNA matches are indicating the former is looking a likely fit, but could be differently connected somehow.
Her brothers Archibald and William simply wont fit around, within or after the documented children of Archibald and Marion.2

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
