William Sinton1,2

(circa 1791 - 30 November 1867)
Father-AssmdThomas Sinton (say 1740 - say 1801); main reason for linking William to Thomas and Elizabeth is the Hampstead SINTON nursery connection - makes him brother to George Hay S. of Sinton's Nursery; plus there's the G & W SINTON oilmen in Edinburgh shortly before they pop up in London3,4

BMDB data

William Sinton was born cir. 1791 SCT not immediately obvious SctP 1785-1795.5,3,1,2
William Sinton married Elizabeth Mary Montague on 17 Sep 1820 St George, Bloomsbury, MDX, ENG, cert. 1477 shows William SINTON & Elizabeth Mary MONTAGUE, botp, marr. by banns; William signed, Elizabeth her mark; Wit: Michael MONTAGUE & Rebecca ELLIOTT.6,5,7
William Sinton died on 30 Nov 1867 Hampstead St John, MDX, ENG.8,1,9 He was buried on 7 Dec 1867 Hampstead St John, MDX, ENG, entry shows William as of Hampstead, aged 76, died 30 Nov.9
Correspondence back in 2000 showed that the William marr. to Elizabeth Mary was born abt 1794 to a James SINTON, born abt 1760 Ashkirk, marr. Jean TROTTER, children born Duns.
Although the William son of James & Jean did indeed marry an Elizabeth, he was a slater in Edinburgh and died there in 1875.
The William married to Elizabeth Mary MONTAGUE "feels" more like he should belong to Thomas & Elizabeth (CURRY) SINTON of Sunup (now Soonhope), Lauder instead.
This id primarily being because of the Hampstead gardening connection with George Hay SINTON (both being in Hampstead in 1841) as no baptism has been found, yet, of a William to Thomas and Elizabeth.
In addition, the Edinburgh PO Directory for 1811 shows G & W SINTON as oilmen on High St; and the 1841 census shows him as 50, which would normally indicate a 1786 thru 1791, the abt 1791 being corroborated by his age at death, rather than the 1794 of the William born to James & Jean - but this is well within the normal margin of error for dates/ages/census.2,3,4,10,11,12

Census/Where lived/Occupations

Bet. 1810 - 1812 William and George Sinton were Edinburgh, MLN, SCT, 1810-11 entry shows George SINTON grocer and oilman at West Bow
1811-12 entry shows G & W SINTON as oilmen at 37 High St (not immediately obvious 1809-10 or 1812-13, about which time they pop up in London). This George is assumed to be the Merchant who married Mary JOHNSTON in 1811, and the disappearance from view at the time of arrival in London aids this id.4,13,3

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
