BMDB data

James Creber was born cir. Feb 1715/16 in the Par. of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, Liz's db has 1715, baptism date is under 1715, old style, so 1716 in our calender.4,5 He was baptized on 14 Feb 1715/16 Walkhampton, DEV, ENG; "James ye son of John Creber was Baptized."6,5
James Creber married Agnes Andrew, daughter of Nathanael Andrew, on 10 Feb 1745 Bickleigh, DEV, ENG, "James Creber and Agnes Andrew were married February 10th by Banns."7,6
James Creber married Margaret King, daughter of Richard King and Margaret Dawe, on 28 Apr 1770 Walkhampton, DEV, entry reads: Margaret King of Sampford Spiney and James Creber of this Parish, married by licence, both signed, witnesses were Richd King (father or brother?) and Elizabeth Spry.1
James Creber died cir. 15 Oct 1800 Walkhampton, DEV.4,6,8 He was buried on 17 Oct 1800 Walkhampton, DEV, entry reads: "James Creber aged 84 of this Parish was buried October 17th 1800, registered oct 26th by me Peter Sleeman, Curate" (I'd keyed 14th from John's info.)6,9

All the other info

In 1765 James Creber was named as tenant of Horseyeat, Par. of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, with Agnes Andrew and Nathanial Andrew as named lives. Lives given as James Creber, Agnes Creber his wife, Nathaniel Andrews aged 3, rent 8/4d heriot £2 or BB (Nathaniel bap. 1765, so either a late bap. or age 3 is from later years.)10
James outlived his wife Agnes Andrew who died cir. Jul 1769.11,12
In 1774 presented at Manor Court, lease issued 3 Jun 1773 "for a "Tenement in Walkhampton Town late Stephen Spurr", should really have said the very late Stephen Spurr, as he had apparently died about 50 yrs ago.13
In 1776 James Creber was named as tenant of Bicklake alias Bicklake Meadow, Par. of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, with Richard Creber, Margaret King Creber and John Creber as named lives. Lives given as "son Richard aged 5, son John aged 1 dau Margaret aged 2" Although supposedly from a 1765 survey, the ages given date at least the ages to more likely being written in 1776 (Mike B cautions that a different Richard, son of James and Margaret bap 1771 later becomes a life on Horseyeat 1783, but I reason that Margaret was James' 2nd wife, and I think they're one and the same Richard, with the discrepancy being explained by the annotations of the ages being much later than 1765.)14
Bet. 1780 - 1800 James Creber was making rental and other payments on Horseyeat (Horsehead), Eggworthy, Footland, Houndhill & Bicklake Meadow, Par. of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, Knowle was added in 1784.15
In 1783 James Creber was named as tenant of Eggworthy, Manor of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, with John Creber and Richard Andrew as named lives. Lessee 57, Richard Andrews jnr 38, John Creber, son of John 30 (James' 1st wife was Agnes Andrews and Richard was her nephew.)16
In 1784 James Creber was making rental and other payments on Knowle, Par. of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG.17
In 1785 James Creber was named as tenant on a Tenement in, Walkhampton Town, DEV, ENG, with Margaret King, Richard Creber and Elizabeth Creber as named lives. The survey showing Margaret as his wife, and Elizabeth and Richard as his children, rent £1/1/- and the Heriot at £2 on each of the 1st two to die.18
James Creber witnessed the marriage of William Creber and Margaret King Creber on 26 Jun 1792 Par. Ch, Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, the id of which James Creber was the witness being because the shakiness of the signature makes me think it was Margaret's father.19,20
In 1795 James Creber was named as tenant Walkhampton Town, DEV, with Richard Creber and Elizabeth Creber as named lives. Children's ages given as Richard 24 and Elizabeth as 22.21
John Creber paid a heriot on 15 Oct 1800 due on the death of James Creber of Horseyeat, Manor of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, "Jas. Creber's Exrs in lieu of a BB for an Hert. due for Horseyeat" (as son John lived at Horseyeat later, I've assumed he was an executor.)8
Richard Creber paid a heriot on 15 Oct 1800 due on the death of James Creber Eggworthy, Manor of Walkhampton, DEV, "Jas. Creber's Exrs in lieu of a BB for an Hert. due on his death for Eggworthy" (as son Richard's wife Elizabeth lived at Eggworthy later, I've assumed Richard was an executor.)8

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
