All the other info

In 1740 Richard King was named as tenant of Filley, Manor of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, with Margaret King and William Williams Jnr as named lives. According to the Dartmoor Press web pages he held the lease "on the lives of Margaret King and William Williams junior. The rent was assessed at 13s 4d per annum (a high price for just a small plot of land) and the heriot at £1 13s 4d (an apparently odd sum, but equivalent to 2½ marks)"
(I have assumed that Margaret is his wife nee Dawe, and the dtr of the previously recorded tenant, one Ellis Dawe, and that William Williams is some relation of Margaret's through her mother, Johan nee Williames. I also note that later in Horrabridge there's an Ann King married to a William Williams.7) In 1740 Richard King succeeded Ellis Dawe as tenant Filley, Manor of Walkhampton, DEV, Elias/Ellis being his father-in-law.8,9,10
In the Easter Sessions of 1741 a "Richard King of Sanford Spiney Yeoman" appeared on a list of Badgers; Kidders and Licensed S... Midsummer 1729 to Michaelmas 1745 - Exclusive - assumed to be this Richard as dtr Margaret was baptised there in 1741.11
Richard King and Walter King were Sampford Spiney, Roborough Hundred, DEV, ENG, bet. 1741 - 1762 as they both appear on the Devon Freeholders lists during this period and are shown as eligible, and obliged, to serve on juries. In 1730 the qualification for such service was widened from owning freehold land of £10 or more, to include men 21 to 70 who held land by lease of a minimum value of £20, provided such leases were for 500 years or more, or 99 years or other term determinable on one or more lives. In 1741 Walter and Richard both show as leaseholders, but no occupation is shown against their names in 1762. In 1771 only Richard shows up, Walter having died early in the year.12,13,14 Richard King witnessed the marriage of John King and Ann King on 2 Aug 1771 Par. Ch, Walkhampton, DEV, ENG.15,3,16
In 1780 Richard was buried in Walkhampton, and John King (assumed to be his son) was presented at the Manor Court to become the tenant of Filley.17

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
