Well I never. I'd given up on trying to find the siblings of my 2xgreat grandfather James Henderson. I obviously just didn't try hard enough, or look East towards Fife instead of SE to Lanark once I'd exhausted the Stirling/Perth/Clackmannan area. Thank you, again, Linda. That 1841 census for sister Margaret under the wrong surname was a great find. So far descendants have been found in Fife, Nairn, and California (again), with evidence of some of them passing through Arizona, West Lothian, and Lanarkshire at various points of their lives. Guess I'd better concentrate a bit harder and find the youngest brother, John now.
Aug 2010: Found. Love to hear from any descendants, particularly any with early photographs, or anyone willing to add to our knowledge of the HENDERSON dna.7

Census/Where lived/Occupations

Archibald Henderson appeared on the census of 1841 Maygate St, Dunfermline, FIF, SCT, as HENDERSON: Archibald 25 grocer; Margaret 30, neither b cty; Margaret 9; Duncan 6; Janet 3; Mary 1 all b cty; (found with great glee by Linda as being only match she could find for the missing in action Margaret McGregor nee Henderson and the rest of her family - and I can imagine an enumerator assuming her surname if told she was Archibald's sister. Margaret's husband and 2 eldest children were working in Beath) (NB enumerators were instructed to round ages down to the nearest multiple of 5.)8,9 He lived in Jan 1849 Castle Barns, Edinburgh St Cuthberts, MLN, SCT, when dtr Lidias/Lillias died of whooping cough, at age 11 mths.10

The census of 1861 showed Archibald with his wife Margaret, their sons Archibald, Donald, William and James, their dtr Janet Bridgegate St (127), Clyde, Glasgow, LKS, SCT, household enumerated as HENDERSON: Archibald 45 grocer emp 1 boy, b Lecropt, STI; wife Margaret A 44 b Dunfermline, FIF; Children: Arch'd 18 grocer, Janet 16 both b Auchterderran, FIF; Donald C 10 scholar b W Calder Edinburghshire; Wm 7, James C 3 both b Glasgow, LKS; Boarder: Andrew? E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
