BMDB data

Andrew Hood was born cir. 1838 Jedburgh, ROX, SCT.1,4 Some sources believe Andrew Hood was born cir. 1836 Jedburgh, ROX, from age he gave at his marriage (place assumed from census info). This is 2 yrs earlier than age in 1851 as presumably given by his parents to census enumerator.2 Other sources indicate Andrew Hood was born cir. 1847 (from age given on his death by son James, discounted as being 9-11 yrs later than other more reliable sources.)3
Andrew Hood married Janet Keddie, daughter of James Keddie and Janet Muir, on 28 Jul 1860 Chapel St, Galashiels, SEL, SCT, cert reads: Janet Keddie, mill worker, spinster, dtr of James Keddie, woollen worker, dec. and Janet Moore; 19; usual res. Chapel St, Galashiels married on 28 Jul 1860 at Chapel St to Andrew Hood, cloth finisher, bachelor, son of William Hood, stocking maker and Ann Fairbairn; aged 24, usual res. Abbotsford Rd, Galashiels, according to the forms of the United Pres. Ch, wit. John Fairbairn* and William Keddie (assumed to be Janet's brother, who might be the one in Selkirk in 1881, with children named James and Janet)
* possible identifications include John, son of Archibald F and Elizabeth Houd/Hood, Andrew's cousin via his mother Ann, and possibly also via his father Wm; There's also a more distant John, a cousin once removed, but he is much older and less likely. There are however at least 46 other John Fs of an age in ROX/SEL to choose from!4,5,2,6
Andrew Hood married Janet Cossar, daughter of David Cossar and Elizabeth Brodie, on 26 Sep 1893 13 Tea St, Galashiels, SEL, SCT, cert reads: Andrew Hood, warehouse man in woolen factory, widower, 57, usu. resid. 3 School Close Galashiels, son of Wililam Hood, stocking maker and Ann Fairbairn, both dec married Janet Cossar, spinster, 53, usu. resid. 13 Lea St, Galashiels, (assumed to be Tea St) dtr of David Cossar, mill wright and Elizabeth Brodie, both dec., according to the forms of the Ch of Sct, wit: James Keddie (presumably a relation of Andrew's first wife?) and James Lockie(?)3
Andrew Hood died on 16 Oct 1912 Tea St, Galashiels, SEL, SCT; Cert 775 #138 reads Andrew Hood, retired warehouseman, married to Janet Cossar, previously to Janet Keddie, died 16 Oct 1912 10:30pm at Tea St, Galashiels, aged 75 yrs, of bronchitis, son of William Hood, occ. shoemaker, and Ann Muir (assumed to be a mistake by the informant), both dec; Inf. son James of 59 Douglas St, Galasheils(Age doesn't match that at 1881 census, and despite "evidence" to the contrary, other certs prove Andrew to be the son of Wm Hood and Ann Fairbairn.3,6)

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
