Mary Cranston Hood married William Gillies Wilson, son of John Wilson and Mary Stuart, on 24 Jun 1897 at the Manse, Galashiels, SEL, SCT, cert reads: William Gillies Wilson, wool factory worker and widower; s/o John Wilson, sergeant-major, militia - dec and Mary Stuart, decd; age 67, usual residence - 22 Church Street, Galashiels Mary Cranston Hood (illiterate) housekeeper and spinster; d/o William Hood, brewery worker - dec and Ann Fairbairn, decd; age 60; usual residence - 22 Church Street, Galashiels. married on 24 June 1897 at the Manse, Galashiels; according to the forms of the Church of Scotland; witnesses - John MacBeth and M.A. Hunter (the latter may be a Fairbairn relation of Mary's).5,6
Mary Cranston Hood died on 18 Dec 1898 at 5 Tea St, Galashiels, SEL, SCT; a yr and a half after marrying William (although she was his housekeeper/lodger 17 yrs earlier in 1881). Cert reads: Mary Wilson, married to William Gillies Wilson, wool factory worker, dtr of William Hood, brewery worker, and Ann Fairbairn, both dec., died 18 Dec 1898 2:20pm at 5 Lea (assumed to be Tea) St, Galashiels, aged 63, of cardiac disease, inf. widower William G Wilson, present.5
Margaret Hood appeared on the census of 7 Jun 1841 in Canongate, Jedburgh, ROX, SCT, in the household of William Hood and Ann Hood shown as Margaret Hood.7 She appeared on the census of 30 Mar 1851 at 1 Duck Row, Jedburgh, ROX, SCT, in the household of William and Ann Hood as daughter of William.3 Mary Hood was a woolen weaver at Jedburgh, ROX, SCT, fr 1860 - 1871.8,2 She appeared on the census of 1861 at 31 Canongate, Jedburgh, ROX, SCT, in the household of William Hood and Ann Hood as daughter of William.9
Mary was likely to be in ?Deans Close, Jedburgh, ROX, SCT, in 1861. She appeared on the census of 3 Apr 1881 at 24 Park St, Melrose, SEL, SCT, as a lodger of William Gillies Wilson.4 Mary Cranston Hood was shown as a housekeeper when she married in Jun 1897 of 22 Church St, Galashiels, SEL, SCT.6
