Meet my newly found (Oct 2017) 3* great grandfather.

He's been a long time hiding, probably in plain sight.
Until now however dots had not been joined.
See this blogpost on the dot joining:

Thank you Doug for popping up as a DNA Match that piqued my interest as to how come you also shared matches with a couple of known "cousins" down my Andrews/Gibson line.

The history:
Jane Gibson, my 2* great grandmother's available certificates were a bit of a mystery - no father shown on her marriage certificate, nor on her death certificate.
Mother shown as Jane Gibson on Jane's own death certificate, along with a birthplace of Somerset.
Which led to the conclusion that Jane was the illegitimate daughter of a Jane GIBSON, of whom there were no likely candidates in sight.
1841 census, yes, born County, but of course, she and husband Simon had emigrated to New Zealand long before the 1851 census which would have provided a more precise birthplace

The reality (at least as it currently appears):
Jane was born in Queen Camel, Somerset, to a William GIPSON and Mary HANHAM who had married in 1804 in Sutton Montis, Somerset - both reasonably close towns to Martock.
How Simon and Jane met we can only conjecture.
Her immediate siblings appear not to have travelled far from Queen Camel over their lives although one did venture to London with her husband, returning to Queen Camel to live with two of her widowed siblings in later life, and two of the children of one sister emigrated to Australia,

William himself was born in Yeovil, to a John GIPSON, possibily with siblings Samson & Temperance*. He appears on two censuses, both as an ag. lab., and is buried at Queen Camel aged 85, wife Mary having died many years earlier.

* if John GIBSON of Marsh on Temperance's baptism is the same John.6,7

Disambiguation:
Several online trees assign a William GIBSON dying 1867 Somerset, England as Jane GIBSON's father, this being the most persistent of the candidates in trees.
But no William GIBSON of anything like the right age appears in the England, let alone Somerset, death indexes for the time, plus/minus 2 years, nor in the 1861 census.
It seems rather likely, looking at the FamilySearch global tree that someone has confused Somerset England for Somerset Massachusetts as the family he is usually attached to there has siblings in Massachusetts.8

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
