England, "date of record 8 Jun 1880" A notice in the Portage Lake Mining Gazette, reports: Isaac Matters died in his home at the age of 48 years 7 months.3,7

Richard, son, 27, unm, engine driver; Joseph, son, 22, engine driver; Isaac, son, 20, mine lab; Elizabeth, dtr, 17, house servt; John, son, 14, shop boy; Anne, dtr, 8, scholar.1
     Isaac Matters appeared on the census of 1860 Sharon, Medina Co., OH, USA, enumerated as Isaac Matters, 30, farm lab b ENG, in hsehold of Augustus (28 b Conn) and Ruth (24 b NY) Heston.6
     The census of 1870 showed Isaac with his wife Elizabeth, their dtrs Jane and Mary, their son Keziah Portage Twp, Houghton Co., MI, USA, household enumerated as MATTERS: Isaac, 39yr old white male, stamp mill worker, b ENG, parents foreign born, can read but not write. Wife Elizabeth, 40yr old white female, keeping house, b ENG, parents foreign born. Children (all b in Michigan): Mary E, 6 white female ; Jane, 4, white female, Keziah 2 white male.5,9

     On 11 Apr 1878 Isaac Matters was planning on leaving the country as this ad appeared in the local paper: For Sale: As I am going to leave the country, I will sell seven shares of the capital stock of the First National Bank of Houghton, at market value. Apply to Isaac Matters, Houghton. He obviously never made it as he was still in Houghton when he died 9 mths later.10
