     Janet Purdie was born on 7 Feb 1802 Traquair, PEE, SCT, although from a patron submission,this birth date does not conflict with a 2 Apr baptism, and fits within an acceptable range of Janet's (rounded) age of 35 in the 1841 census.
NB it does conflict with later census data which imply a later date.2,3,4,5 She was baptized on 2 Apr 1802 Traquair, PEE; Entry reads:' Baptized Janet daughter to Thomas Purdie, herd."2,3 Others have shown Janet Purdie as baptized on 8 Feb 1807 Selkirk, SEL, SCT, Carol's GenForum posting would appear to be the wrong Janet (d/o Thomas PURDIE and Margarate LEGGET) - see dth cert.6,7,8
     Janet Purdie married George Fairbairn, son of Archibald Fairbairn and Mary Grierson, on 10 Jun 1825 Melrose, ROX, SCT, 1841 census has Male Servant Robert F, age 15 with them.9
     Janet Purdie died on 22 Dec 1874 School Close, Galashiels, SEL, SCT, at age 72; Dist 755 #126: Janet FAIRBAIRN, 72, widow of George F., farm steward, d/o Thomas PURDIE, forester, dec, and Mary m.s. SCOTT, dec. Of cerebral softening, inf. John F, son.1
     Many trees show Janet as daughter of Thomas PURDIE and Margarate LEGGET, baptized 1807 Selkirkshire. This conflicts with Janet's (married George FAIRBAIRN) death cert; matching baptism and birth place in census.
The Janet, mother Margarate LEGGET, 1807 baptism entry shows father Thomas was a stocking maker in Selkirk. Thomas and Margaret had married in Dec 1802, Thomas of Selkirk parish, Margaret of Wilton, daughter of John.10

     Janet Purdie appeared on the census of 1851 Broomylees, Par. of Melrose, ROX, SCT, with George Fairbairn, enumerated as FAIRBAIRN: George 45 ag lab b Spaw, ROX; Janet 46 b Glenmade PEE; Children (all b Melrose): Thomas 19 carpenter ap; Robert 12, Charles 10, George 6 all scholars; John 4; Next hse Mary FAIRBAIRN.11
     Janet Purdie appeared on the census of 1861 Broomilees, Par. of Melrose, ROX, with George Fairbairn, enumerated as FAIRBAIRN: George 56 farm steward b Hobkirk ROX; wife Janet 57 b Traquair, PEE; Son John 15 ag lab b Melrose ROX; Grdson George CLAPPERTON 9 scholar b Galashiels, SEL.12
