BMDB data

     Some sources show George as born in 1804 Stow, MLN, SCT, but I think this is a misinterpretation of the 1851 census which shows Spaw, ROX.4,5
     George Fairbairn was born on 12 Jul 1804 Macksidemoore, Par. of Southdean, ROX, SCT, various places and dates have been advanced for George's birth, Stow, MLN (probably a misinterpretation of the 1851 census which shows him as 45 and born Shaw, ROX), Hobkirk, ROX (1861 census, aged 45) and Spaw, ROX (1851). Hobkirk is a neighbouring parish to Southdean where he was baptised, so possible, haven't yet found Spaw, so cannot comment, but as he was baptised in Southdean parish in Aug 1804, his age is a tad out in all of them.6,5,7,8 He was baptized on 28 Aug 1804 Par. of Southdean, ROX, SCT; entry shows George as born 12 July and bap. 26 Aug (not the 20th on the IGI) son of Archibald of Macksidemoore.3,6
     George Fairbairn was born cir. 1805 Hobkirk, ROX, SCT, (from 1861 census.)9
     George Fairbairn was born cir. 1806 Spaw, ROX, SCT, (from 1851 census.)5,7
     George Fairbairn married Janet Purdie, daughter of Thomas Purdie and Mary Scott, on 10 Jun 1825 Melrose, ROX, SCT, 1841 census has Male Servant Robert F, age 15 with them.10
     George Fairbairn died on 11 Nov 1870 Harwoodburn, SEL, SCT, at age 66; cert #88 reads: George FAIRBAIRN; general labourer and married to Janet Purdie;s/o Archibald Fairbairn (ploughman-dec) and Mary Grierson (dec) DIED 11 November 1870 at Harwoodburn, county of Selkirk; age 66; cause of death - cirrhosis of the liver (10 weeks); informant John Fairbairn (son) present.11,12,2,4
