Original information received on James Snr's forebears was that he belonged to the family of William & Isabel (DUNLOP) SINTON and thus was born c 1760 at Ashkirk.
However this family, that of James & Jean (TROTTER) SINTON, seem to have moved from Duns, concentrated in Edinburgh following trades of mason, cabinetmaker, slater.
There are two deaths of James SINTON mason in Edinburgh: one in 1829 aged 37, from 72 Richmond St, another in 1835 aged 89 of St Leonard's Lane.
The conclusion is that these are son and father respectively, with the son James being the husband of Helen TELFER, and of an age to be the 1791 birth to James & Jean (TROTTER) SINTON at Duns.6,7
