     Walter Turnbull was born cir. Jun 1745 at Dykehead, Par. of Kirkandrews on Esk, CUL, ENG, not obvious in BTs for Nichol Forest 1746-1762 or Kirk Andrews on Esk, 1738-1745, which was accounted for when a baptism was found over the border in Canonbie!3,2,1 He was baptized on 16 Jun 1745 at Canonbie, DFS, SCT; entry reads: "Walter Turnbull and Betty Turnbull in the Parish of Kirkandrews had a lawful son bap. Walter."2,1
     Walter Turnbull married Elizabeth Dickson on 11 Jan 1774 at Nicholforest, Par. of KirkAndrews upon Esk, CUL, ENG, Walter Turnbull of this Chapelry (Nicholforest), Batchelor, aged 28, and Elizabeth Dickson of the Parish of Cannobie, Spinster, aged 24, were married in this Chapel by Banns the eleventh Day of January one thousand seven hundred and seventy four"
The Canonbie OPR side of this reads: Walter Turnbull in the Parish of Kirkandrews and Elizabeth Dixon in this parish were proclaimed in order to marriage Decr the 26th 1773, Janry the 2 and 9th and married the 11th 1774.
Children other than Robert assumed to belong to this couple because of the igi submissions with birthplaces of Dykehead, where Walter was known to be a joiner (baptism of Robert), and christenings at Canonbie, where Elizabeth was known to come from (marriage).3,4
     Walter Turnbull died aft. 1791 prob. at ?Dykehead, Par. of Kirkandrews on Esk, CUL, ENG.

      By Jan 1774 Walter Turnbull was a carpenter at Dikehead, Nichol Forest, CUL, ENG.5

     His surname was recorded as Turnbul in the baptism records for his children.6
     Walter Turnbull married to Betty Dixon/Dickson and Walter Turnbull of an age and place to be his son, and married to Mary Telford at Nichol Forest, CUL, ENG, cir. 1800 were possibly related but the gap between known children is a bit tight for him to really fit here, even if there has to be a relationship of some sort. The younger Walter lived Megs Mire, Nichol Forest, and descendants moved to Roxburghshire (Eckford, Kelso, Ancrum) with some becoming successful sawmillers.7
