BMDB data

Robert Junkine was born say 1755 Port of Menteith, PER, SCT, Baptism not found but assumed to belong to this family given where first son was born (Tarr). I've placed him as abt 1755, ie after last known baptism given how few gaps there are between the known baptisms. Not placed between marriage and first baptism as that would upset the Scottish Naming patterrn.1
Robert Junkine married Catherine Neilson on 8 Aug 1776 Port of Menteith, PER, entry reads: Robert Junkine & Catherine Neilson both parishoners (married) Aug 8.3
     Aug 2024 update:
We now have BigY tested descendants from siblings Patrick (m. Mary Buchanan) and Robert (m. Catharine Neilson).
James Henderson's tested descendants now show as a parallel branch with the descendants of Patrick and Robert, and are now assumed to descend from one or other of the untested siblings of Robert or Patrick, ie James, John or Alexander, or an unknown sibling or a descendant of a line even further back - remembering that the culprit had to be around to father James b. Sep 1813.

All three lines meet at haplogroup R-BY19859 which branch was formed at least as far back as James (m. Montgomrie).

Hence the change from Patrick to William who is the currently favoured candidate mainly because he's the only brother we know anything more about and two of his children lived around Kippen, a bit nearer to the Bridge of Allan.

The history:
Back in 2019 yDNA testing highlighted that our tested descendants of my 2* great grandfather James Henderson (b. 1813) did not have a match to the tested descendant of James' brother Archibald.
The former had no matches other than each other, the latter had matches to at least 3 Henderson families from Stilringshire/Perthshire.
Roll forward to March 2023 and a match to James' tested descendants, at BigY level, turned up, Jenkins by surname.
From autosomal DNA we knew we had quite a few matches to the intertwined, and extensive, families of Jenkins, and Buchanan, from Perthshire / Stirlingshire, but few clues exactly how we connected. Many were to the family of Patrick Junkin / Jenkins and Mary Buchanan.
James' father was initially reallocated from Archibald to a placeholder Jenkins male asumed to have been born around 1782 to Patrick and Mary (Buchanan) Junkine / Jenkins. But these latter autosomal matches could be from the assorted Buchanan families in the area rather than the Jenkins line, and may be from James' wife Ameila Millar's unknown ancestry instead of James' Jenkins ancestry.4 As explained on the WikiTree link, Robert is assumed to belong to the family of James Junkin and Janet McGomrey by place, timeframe, first son James, and second daughter, as yet unsourced, Janet.
It would be good to prove this.
This "proof" has taken a step closer with the addition to our DNA results of a preliminary (y37) test from a descendant of Robert's via his son Joseph.
To date, May 2024, we now know that his high level haplogroup is R-S691, which is our terms, the "grandparent" branch of both the Perthshire and Stirlingshire branches of Junkin/Jenkins families
(see https://discover.familytreedna.com/groups/ff-lorna-hen/tree?subgroups=320927 for the current state of results from BigY testers, of whom the new addition should be one in a few months time)
From the matches on the y37 test, the Perthshire branches are marginally closer than the Stirlingshire ones. Time will tell all.

I, Lorna, would still love to hear from any DNA tested descendants, who would be welcome to join the FFLornaHen project on Family Tree DNA.5

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
