| Father-Poss | George Runciman (marr. Jennet Finlay) (say 1645 - ); The identification of George & Jennet as David's parents is based purely on date and location and lack of documented alternatives. With the results now coming out of the DNA project, possibly we should be looking within East Lothian for David's parents instead?1,2 |

Intro
From the Runciman DNA project we have a good match between descendants of Thomas married to Alison Grieve, and of William of Crail.A tentative paper trail can be constructed between Thomas, William and the Robert married to Janet Sinclair and Katherine Begbie.
William of Crail's orphaned children are known to have been brought up by a Richard RUNCIMAN living in North Berwick, and there is a baptism of an appropriate Richard to Robert and Katherine (Begbie), the assumption here is that William of Crail is the William born to Robert and Janet (Sinclair) in 1717.
Likewise Thomas born Prestonpans, the son of Robert Runciman and Janet Sinclair, with a brother William, is currently assumed to be the same Thomas married to Alison Grieve with first known son Robert, living Thornton, Innerwick.3,4
In addition there is also a good DNA match to the representatives of the line of David, weaver of Earlston and progenitor of the Wanton Walls Runciman families. Exactly how David relates to either William or Thomas is completely unknown.5,6

David Runciman (marr. to Margaret Brown) belongs to a DNA tested line. Click here for further information. As of Mar 2010 descendants of David Runciman (marr. to Margaret Brown) and William Runciman (of Crail) have been shown to be genetically related. The DNA results show an excellent match between descendants of these two families (66/67 between a descendant of the Michigan families and 65/67 between a descendant of the Wanton Walls branch).
How they connect is completely unknown as yet. The dna results were a complete surprise so there isn't, yet, a plausible connection between the two families. (I was/am on the trail of trying to prove a completely different theory, which isn't nullified by the newfound results, about the connections for William of Crail as part of the Runciman One Name Study).5
