Peter Sinton died on 13 Jul 1874 Curror St, Selkirk, SEL, SCT, at age 18; this dth cert showing him as "Robert" aged 18, a railway engine fireman, dying at 9am of malignant scarlett fever of 3 days duration, s/o Robert Sinton, factory labourer and Jane m.s. Park, inf. father Robert (if he was indeed Robert and not Peter, he should be 21, as Robert was given as 18 3 yrs previously in the 1871 census, and he cannot have died in 1874 in Selkirk if he married in 1879 in New Zealand. As I have not found any further evidence of Peter's existance beyond 1871 in Scotland, and Robert did marry in NZ in 1879, I am working on the theory that father Robert recorded the death of the wrong son.)4,5

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
