BMDB data

John Sinton was born cir. 1767 ?SCT which year is consistent across the following sources: dth cert implies 1768; 1841 census rounded aged implies between 1766 thru 1771; and his 1841 burial is indexed as born about 1767 "NI or NS".2,3,4
John Sinton married Mary Wilson on 7 Jun 1800 Muggleswick, Dist of Lanchester, DUR, ENG, (transcribed) entry shows John Sinton labourer of Lanchester married Mary Wilson. Wit: James Sinton, William Turnbull, George Raw.1,5
John Sinton died on 3 Aug 1841 Shotley Bridge, Benfieldside, Dist of Lanchester, DUR, ENG; cert. shows that John, a labourer, died aged 73, of debility, inf. son Joseph, also of Shotley Bridge, present at dth (reg. Census/Where lived/Occupations

John Sinton appeared on the census of 1841 Shotley Bridge, Benfieldside, Dist of Lanchester, DUR, ENG, as the Durham Records Online transciption shows: SINTON/LINTON: John 70 ag lab N (I) or N (S); Peter 30 coal miner; Joseph 25 coal miner; Mary 15; SHORT: George 30 quarryman N; SINTON/LINTON: Joseph 25 N (I have taken the "N" to mean not born census county, and the N(I) or N(S) to mean John was likely to have been born in Scotland.
Indexed on ancestry as LANTON and SENTON, the actual image shows: SINTON: John 70 ag lab b S(cotland); Peter 30 , Joseph 25 both miners, Mary 15, all b cty; George SHORT, quarryman, not b cty; Joseph Sinton 25 not b cty; ( ie no mention of coal, John clearly b S(cotland)) (NB enumerators were instructed to round ages down to the nearest multiple of 5.)3,8 He was a labourer (when son Joseph married) in Jul 1845 ?Shotley Bridge, DUR, ENG.9

All the other info

John Sinton is a potential duplicate of John Sinton; the Durham John is nearly of an age to be the John christened in 1774 as s/o Patrick aka Peter Sinton of Southdean, this Patrick being highly likely to be the Peter who married Janet Donaldson. In addition he has a son Peter, and descendants married descendants of Peter Sinton and Janet Donaldson. All of this is however conjecture, and given the timeframes, unlikely to be proven.
However one consistently indicates a birth around 1766 thru 1771, and the other was bap. 1774, which is a bit of a stretch unless it was a delayed baptism.
Assuming all children have been identified/found, the naming pattern of John and Mary's children supports a John and Mary Sinton as parents, not that I have any candidates in mind - yet.
Regardless of John's parentage, I do believe that a connection with the Southdean Sintons is highly likely as descendants intermarry, and they weren't that far away. So, my usual plea applies, I'd love to hear from any descendants, and particularly from any direct male line Sintons willing to represent this family in the Sinton Surname DNA Project to see if science can prove something records cannot. A subsidy may be available.10

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
