Agnes Grieve died on 31 Oct 1895 Alford Forest, SCY, NZ; Grieve.— Oct. 31,1595, at Alford Forest, Agnes, the beloved wife of Christopher Grieve. Deeply lamented by a large and loving family and large circle of friends.
DEATH. Mrs Agnes Grieve passed away rather suddenly after a short illness no doubt the grief felt at the loss of her daughter aggravated the symptoms of her illness. No woman in this district was more deserving of respect, as shown by the large concourse of friends assembled at the funeral. An impressive address was given at the grave by Rev B. J. Westbrooke, and the hymn "For ever with the Lord" was sung by all present. Numerous wreaths covered the pall, and others were placed over the grave, at the end of the service.2,3,6,7 She was buried with Christopher Grieve Plot 100, Alford Forest, SCY, NZ, Christopher aged 67 interred 19 Feb 1912, Agnes aged 53 interred 1 Nov 1895; (dtr )Sarah 27 interred 2 Sep 1895.8
Not only have I just (May 2014) found Agnes' sister Catherine in New Zealand, but the same contact casually mentioned that she thought Catherine had emigrated to join her married sister!
And so it turned out.
Both settled in the Alford Forest area of Sth Canterbury, Kate becoming the housekeeper for her brother-in-law at some stage after Agnes died.
Would love to hear from these newfound relations, of whom there would appear to be quite a few - mostly still GRIEVE by name.
Sorting out which family belongs and which doesn't is proving a little challenging!9

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
