BMDB data

Andrew Baty was born cir. Jun 1784 Hornick Hill, nr Longtown, Par. of Arthuret, CUL, ENG.2 He was baptized on 6 Jun 1784 Arthuret, CUL, ENG; Andrew, s/o William, Husbandman, & Sarah his wife of Hornickhill.2 Some sources show Andrew as born cir. 1789 Longtown, Par. of Arthuret, CUL, ENG, (from the patron submission for Andrew & Mary's marriage.)1,3
Andrew Baty married Mary Richardson, daughter of George Richardson and Sibil Marrs, on 20 Feb 1814 at Arthuret, Cumberland, the entry shows both were "of this parish", they married by license, Andrew signed, Mary her mark, married by the Curate, James Traill, witnessed by William Johnston, and George Colquhoun (the parish clerk who witnessed a lot of the marriages). The marriage bonds add that Andrew was a farmer of Hornock Hill and Mary of Arthuret, bondsman William Johnston, farmer of Stonehouse.4,5,3,6
Andrew Baty was assumed to have died on 25 Jan 1841 at Longtown, Par. of Arthuret, Cumberland, as there's a burial of a 55 yr old Andrew Baty of Longtown that might fit, and I eventually found the matching death registration (as Beaty) I am assuming it is this Andrew as the informant was George, who could be the son. Andrew is given as 55, an agricultrual labourer, dying of consumption, informant X the mark of George Beaty, of Longtown, present at the death, reg. 24th.7,8,9,10 He was buried on 28 Jan 1841 at Arthuret, Cumberland, aged 55, of Longtown (no MI.)10

All the other info

I am obliged to point out that I originally placed the Andrew who married Mary Richardson as the Andrew baptized to William & Sarah of Hornick Hill on mainly circumstantial evidence.
At least one descendant believes this marriage is that of the Andrew baptized around the same time to John & Jane (nee Graham) Baty of Slealands.
I believe that Andrew, s/o John & Jane, married Elizabeth Sunderland and farmed at Slealands then Hobbiesburn. I've also been told that his grave is with the rest of the Slealands ones.
The Andrew farming at Hobbiesburn died 1858, and we know that the husband of Mary was dead before the 1851 census, and probably before the 1841.
There's probably a distant relationship, but working back up the chain their respective grandfathers are both of an age and called William, so it must be more distant than cousins.

In additional support of my conclusions I offer that the first two children I could find to an Andrew and Mary were named William and Sarah, and, the parents, Andrew and Mary were given as "of HornickHill" at the time of the baptisms. As the 1814 marriage entry of Andrew and Mary doesn't mention any place names I had to go to the marriage bonds for further information, and sure enough, they showed that Andrew was of "Hornock Hill".12,13,14,6

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
