Haithwaite Gate, Nichol Forest, CUL, ENG

According to The Placenames of Cumberland , Hathwaite has been variously shown in records as: Haytwayt (1275), Haythawyt (1583), Hathat (1697), "Thwaite where hay is cut", Hathatyate (1697), Hathwood yate in 1698 (-wood being substitued for -thwaite) Haithwaite. Marker is an approximation as I'm not really sure if the cottages the Turnbulls lived in were those at the B6318 junction, or further up the road.
I've also found Hathetgate as a variant.
