Walter, "formerly hairdresser of Edinburgh, now bookseller of Leith" has been promoted from potentially related to 1st cousin 5x removed - thanks to the Rev. McCAIG who was transported to Van Diemen's Land in 1831 for stealing books - and reported as such in a recent newspaper (Oct 2017)
HDW, ever alert for mentions of potential relatives, noted a mention of a Walter RICHARDSON, merchant, who had premises above a reading room where the rogue minister left a stolen Bible for future collection.
An 1851 census, the baptism of the Walter RICHARDSON in Bedrule that fitted that census, and the marriage of his parents followed.
Walter had been lurking in my database pegged as a potential son of William RICHARDSON, and thus nephew of my xth great grandfather Robert for some years.
His promotion to actual from potential relative comes because of his baptism entry showing his father as a smith, good family occupation, and as first obvious son to William, fits the naming pattern given William's father was a Walter.
In addition Walter's wife's inventory shows her nominated executors included one Robert Richardson at Orchardfield - who happens to be Walter's uncle Robert's grandson.10

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
