Mary Helson was born on 23 Jul 1780 at Broadwood Widger, DEV, ENG.3,4 She was baptized on 20 Aug 1780 at Broadwoodwidger, DEV, ENG; Mary dtr of Thos (husbandman) & Elizabeth Helson of Greenacombe, born 23 July.2
Mary Helson married Richard Pearse on 9 Nov 1805 in the Par. of Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, entry #155 shows Richard as a yeoman, both "of this parish, marr. by banns 9 Nov, Richard signed, Mary her mark, wit: John Pearse and John ??1,5,6
Mary Helson died cir. Oct 1867 at Walkhampton, Dist of Tavistock, DEV, ENG; aged 87.7,4,8,9 She was buried on 1 Oct 1867 at Walkhampton, DEV, ENG, aged 87 of Walkhampton.9
Mary is a new addition to the tree, thanks to Harry in Ontario contacting me with further details on her father. I then found that this Mary had married a Pearse, one of the Walkhampton names that inter-marries many times over with my extended Barter and King families, so I set off on yet another voyage of exploration. This one has taken me to Michigan, as well as tying up many loose ends in the Creber side of the tree. In addition I finally found the baptism of Sarah Peek, this Mary's aunt, and added yet another twig there too.
NB I haven't fully confirmed that dtr Mary belongs here, but a heap of circumstantial evidence points to this. One day I'll find which parish Richard and Mary's children were born in between the 1805 marriage and the first Walkhampton baptism in 1813. So far this Mary is the only child I've found that fits in that gap and she inconsiderately left the country before the 1851 census which would tell me more exactly where she was born.10
Mary Pearse and Richard Pearse appeared on the census of 1841 at Peekhill, Walkhampton, Dist of Tavistock, DEV, ENG, and are assumed to be husband and wife. They were enumerated as PEARSE: Richard 60 farmer; Mary 55 (next page) Betsy OXENHAM 5.11 Mary Pearse appeared on the census of 1851 as wife of Richard Pearse at Lethertor Cottage, Par. of Walkhampton, Dist of Tavistock, DEV, ENG, enumerated as PEARSE: Richard 76 retired farmer b Walkhampton; Mary 70 b Broadwood Widger, DEV.4
The census of 1861 showed Mary, with her dtr Thomasin, in a Cottage, Walkhampton, Dist of Tavistock, DEV, ENG, enumerated as PEARSE: Mary 80 farmer's widow b Broadwoodwidgon (sic), DEV; Dtr Thomasin, 40 hse servant b Walkhampton; (Other part of cottage occupied by Mary Eva, 70 widow, b Sheepstor, son Thomas 28 copper miner, grdson Thomas Cuddeford and visitor Martha Northmore).7

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
