BMDB data

John Stewart was born cir. 1852 Wick, CAI, SCT, (his marriage cert. and the 1881 census both imply 1852/3, but if mother's burial correctly identified, the date has to be prior to 26 Dec 1852.)4,5,6 Some sources believe John Stewart was born cir. 1855 Wick, CAI, SCT.7 Other sources indicate John Stewart was born cir. 1856 Thurso, CAI, SCT.8

Census/Where lived/Occupations

John Stewart appeared on the census of 3 Apr 1881 Sarclet, Par. of Wick, CAI, SCT, in the household of William and Catherine Stewart as son of William.6 John Stewart was a fisherman Thrumster, CAI, SCT, in Dec 1883.4,14
John Stewart was shown as the head of the household in the census of 5 Apr 1891 2 Wellington St, Pulteneytown, Wick, CAI, SCT, with Matilda enumerated as entry reads: John Stewart, head, mar, 36, fisherman, wife Matilda Bain, 25. Children: Wm, 4; Jessie, 2; Bella, 1. All b Wick. 2 rooms with 1 or more windows.
Address very hard to read, looks like 1 Anneglow St !! Census taker went from #1 to #2 then to Murchison St. Might be Barrogill as 1901 census has them at 33 Barrigile St, which I'm assuming is the current Barrogill, but that doesn't connect to Murchison in present day Wick, more likely Wellington.7 John Stewart was a fisherman when son John born Pulteneytown, Wick, CAI, SCT, in Sep 1899.15
John and Matilda Stewart appeared on the census of 31 Mar 1901 33 Barrigile St (?now Barrogill), Wick, CAI, SCT, as John Stewart, 45, fisherman, worker, b Thurso, wife Matilda Stewart, 35, b "Pulty". Children: William, 14; Jessie, 12; Isabella, 11; Donald B, 8; Maggie J, 6; all scholars; Alexander, 4; Matilda, 2. All b Pulty. 3 rooms with 1 or more windows.16,8 John Stewart was described as a fisherman when dtr Matilda married in Sep 1919 Wick, CAI, SCT.17

Names

John was also known as Alexander Stewart as descendants of Matilda consistently refer to her husband as Alexander, not John (based on the belief that that their son Alexander was named after his father) but records do not bear this out.

All the other info

John Stewart was the informant for the death of his wife Matilda Stewart on 8 Apr 1915 33 Barrogill St, Wick, CAI, SCT.18

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
