"Helensvale", the Leith Valley home of William & Helen (WIGHT) HENDERSON - my Great Grandparents
With the family disappearing from the Oamaru Electoral rolls and school records around 1896, I had assumed that was when "Helensvale" had been purchased.
Investigations into the title deeds show that William purchased the property back in Apr 1890.
I do not yet know whether he built the house or not.
The previous two owners were a Surveyor from 1873 to 1889, a surgeon from 1889 to Apr 1890, then William, followed by his widow Helen Sinton HENDERSON nee WIGHT, then their daughter Amelia Jane HARBOUR nee HENDERSON until Mar 195_ where the final digit is missing from the document.
My assumption is that is when the sisters, my great aunts Nellie and Millie, set up house at 325 Malvern St - completely unverified.
