- Father: John Sutherland1,2 b. 21 Jul 1859, d. 13 Feb 1937
- Mother: Jane McKenzie1,2 b. 24 Jul 1857, d. 31 Oct 1947
- Charts: BAIN
- Relationship: 2nd cousin 3 times removed of Lorna Henderson.
- Birth*: Jessie Sutherland was born on 23 Nov 1892 at Leon, Ollaberry, Northmavine, SHI, SCT.1,2,3
- WebNoteOriginals*: Jessie's passport issued 27 Jan 1927 shows: stamps for Colombo (26 Mar 1927) and Freemantle WA (24 Apr 1927). She is described as a Domestic, born Shetland 23rd November 1892, domiciled Scotland, 5ft - in, brown eyes and hair (which allowed me to identify her as travelling from London on the "Orama", leaving 5 March).3

- Burial: She purchased the burial plot of John McKenzie however, as there is also a receipt for the same plot from another McKenzie, and Jessie is also buried there, the cert. must have been for her burial, not for that of James in the New General Cem., Melbourne, VIC, AUS.4

- Death*: Jessie Sutherland died aft. 1956 at Melbourne, VIC, AUS.5,3,6
- LetterFull*: The full text of the letter Barbara Thom Smith sent to Jessie Sutherland on 15 Jun 1956 from Brind, Cunningsburgh, SHI, SCT, reads: Dear Jessie,
I am breaking the silence of many years in the hope you will write an answer to this. I hope you and Sandy and Williie are all well. I have not been at [all] well this last 2 years with Arithens I was in bed 9 weeks last summer just when we had any summer but I don't think we are going to have any good weather this year at all nothing but rain. I had a letter from Hugh last Saturday. He always says he is leaving Broadlean but that day has not come yet. The others are all well so far as I know I don't know if you know that Matties wife Jessie is dead. You will know that Johnnies wife died a good time ago. He is married again to a woman about Jackies age. he was home here a few days 2 years ago. I have not seen any of the others since mother died. I thought you might have written then. Mike (as yet unidentified) is failing he had to have one of his eyes removed short [time] ago in order to save the sight of the other
Cunningsburgh is very quiet nothing doing in the work line. There was some work when the electric was put up. I am hoping I will receive an answer to this. Remember me to Sandy and Willie your loving sister B Smith.6

E. & O. E. Some/most parish records are rather hard to read and names, places hard to interpret, particularly if you are unfamiliar with an area.
